TeamViewer: Hardware for remote access to industrial plants
New TeamViewer technology for secure remote access via hardware gateways and AI-supported maintenance in industry aims to simplify processes.
Instead of installing software clients directly on industrial plants, TeamViewer is to access them via a hardware gateway.

The software company TeamViewer from Göppingen in the Swabian Jura is expanding its maintenance software for industry. At the Hannover Messe 2026, the company presented software for secure remote access to industrial plants with extended support for maintenance and service through AI. With this, TeamViewer aims to better manage downtimes, security risks, and increasing system complexity.

Hardware for remote access without installation
With “Agentless Access”, TeamViewer is introducing a new approach to accessing industrial systems. Unlike before, no software needs to be installed on the target devices to communicate with the TeamViewer software. Instead, users access the plants via a pre-installed hardware gateway.
TeamViewer developed this gateway together with the IT service provider Bechtle. Companies should be able to use it without complex setup. It is intended to allow industrial plants to be managed, programmed, and maintained remotely. Access follows the zero-trust principle: each connection is checked and secured individually.
The gateway device runs the Linux-based operating system Kontron OS, which is intended to establish secure data traffic even when dealing with outdated systems like Windows XP, without creating security risks or requiring system changes. The “TeamViewer Agentless Access” is pre-configured. Connections include DisplayPort, two USB-A 3.2, one USB-C, and two 2.5-GBit LAN sockets.
AI agent for maintenance and service
TeamViewer is also expanding its maintenance software “Assist AR”. It uses Augmented Reality to support technicians during work, for example, through visual cues during a video call.
The integration of the AI agent Tia is new. It accesses a proprietary data pool and is intended to provide suggestions on how to solve problems based on similar past cases. This means that knowledge no longer needs to reside with individual experts but is available during work. In the ideal case, errors can be identified and resolved more quickly, reducing downtime.
