One of Apple's most important managers is said to have at least temporarily considered leaving the company. This is reported by the financial news agency Bloomberg. Mike Rockwell, who is considered the father of the Vision Pro and is currently working on finally getting the Siri voice assistant up to scratch, had “considered switching to a consulting role next year.” This is what informed sources are said to have communicated.
The generation after Steve
According to the report, Rockwell felt uncomfortable reporting to software chief Craig Federighi and hoped for a “bigger role.” Rockwell was reportedly on his way to becoming head of Apple's product and AI roadmap; Bloomberg further writes that this was intended as a kind of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). But that's unlikely to happen, partly because chip boss John Srouji has now been appointed Chief Hardware Officer.

Rockwell's further prospects are reportedly still unclear after a new CEO takes over in September with John Ternus. However, Rockwell will at least complete the Siri upgrade, it was said. Apple veteran Tony Blevins, who once created the tough supply chain system for the company, told Bloomberg that the greatest challenge for Ternus will be “the same one that Cook faced: the transition beyond the generation of executives originally assembled by Steve Jobs.” The challenge is immense.
Srouji's Empire
Srouji, in turn, is said to have approached current Apple CEO Tim Cook at the end of last year to explain that he was “seriously” considering leaving. This resulted in the new role as Chief Hardware Officer – including a new compensation package. The chip expert, who is behind the A and M chips, thus becomes number two behind Ternus. The Israeli with Arab roots is said to have already begun expanding his new empire.
According to Blevins, a new engineering organization is planned to facilitate decision-making. According to Bloomberg, there will be five deputies whom Srouji will reportedly lead more aggressively than they are used to from Ternus' organization. It also remains unclear who might possibly succeed Srouji. He is ten years older than the nearly 50-year-old new CEO.
