Camera app in iOS 27 to get Siri mode

According to a report, Apple is expanding the possibilities of exploring the environment with AI. To this end, the camera app integrated into iOS is to receive a “Siri mode” for the first time with the next major operating system version. The function apparently resembles the familiar visual intelligence, which can now be quickly accessed on iPhones that have a button for camera control. In iOS 27, in addition to the photo, video, portrait, or panorama modes, you will also be able to switch the camera app to the aforementioned Siri mode, writes Bloomberg. The shutter button then transforms into the Apple Intelligence logo.
Visual intelligence placed more prominently
The purpose is apparently to place visual intelligence more prominently. Apple currently uses a mix of local AI, Google Search, and features from OpenAI ChatGPT to operate the service. For example, you can read out concerts and other appointments and transfer them to the iPhone, search for items on Google, recognize objects like animals and plants, or get information about the photographed content from ChatGPT. Whether all these features will also be available in Siri mode in the camera app is still unclear, but the probability is high.

However, new functions are also planned. The system is to be able to recognize and evaluate nutritional information tables. It is also already known that with the help of Visual Intelligence, tickets and membership cards can be created in Apple Wallet, and contacts can be created from business cards, the latter probably also in Siri mode.
Probably the most popular Apple Intelligence feature
The Visual Intelligence feature is currently one of the most popular features of Apple Intelligence. In contrast to the rather below-average image and text generators (Image Playground and Writing Tools) that Apple has implemented, the function offers real added value in everyday life, especially on devices with camera control. It therefore seems sensible that Apple is further focusing on the function.
iOS 27 will be presented next month at the WWDC 2026 developer conference. The operating system will likely be launched in September along with new iPhone models, should Apple proceed as usual. According to further reports, Apple also wants to improve the AI-powered photo tools in iOS 27, including a fill and enhance function. Furthermore, reframing of spatial photos is planned, i.e., an AI-supported change of perspective for 3D recordings. Siri is also to appear as a standalone app for the first time.
