New AI features in iOS 27: Image generator for wallpaper, Shortcuts, Text check
Apple is planning not only a chatbot Siri for the next iPhone operating system, but also improvements to other AI functions.

Apple is working on further new AI functions for iOS 27, which are to be presented at the World Wide Developers Conference WWDC on June 8. In addition to a significantly improved Siri with chatbot function including context-sensitive data and app access, the genmojis created with Apple Intelligence are also to be improved. But it doesn't stop there. According to Bloomberg, optimizations are planned in at least three other areas.
Image generation for lock screen and home screen
According to a report on Monday evening, this includes the Image Playground image generator, among others. In the context of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, the function will be able to create wallpapers via natural language for the first time. The function is apparently not planned for macOS 27.

On mobile devices, the AI wallpapers are directly integrated into the wallpaper settings. In addition to existing recordings, new images can be generated directly via a text prompt, and users will be redirected to Image Playground for this. According to Bloomberg, this works for both the lock screen and the home screen. Competitors like Google or Samsung have been offering such functions for a long time.
Writing tools and Shortcuts
Furthermore, Apple is said to be equipping its writing tools, the so-called Writing Tools, with a new spell checker. This is said to be oriented towards competitors like Grammarly or LanguageTool, thus going far beyond what Apple's normal spell check can do. The system makes suggestions via a transparent menu that moves upwards.
Entire text blocks are checked for correct grammar. Apple also plans to place the Writing Tools more prominently in iOS and iPadOS, for example, in the form of a new button in the keyboard (“Write with Siri” or “Help me write” when activating Siri in a text field). Finally, Apple continues to work on the AI features of the Shortcuts function, alias short commands. There, they should now also be creatable via text prompt, as is known from the usual Vibe-Coding. It remains unclear with all of this how many of the features come from Apple itself and for which the company is getting help from Google Gemini. It is currently expected that users will not see this directly.
