Transmit: Classic FTP client for macOS gets major update
Transmit has existed since 1999. Now the creators at Panic Software have started a major update.
Transmit 6 on Mac: Only usable from macOS 26 onwards.

An almost 30-year-old software that is still on the computers of many Mac users: Transmit was once considered the FTP client for macOS par excellence. The creators at Panic Software have now announced a major overhaul with version 6. The software is to be modernized visually and in terms of operation. A beta phase, which was initially limited to existing users, has now also been opened to the public.
Combination of Panic and Liquid Glass
First innovation that people who have rejected Apple's new design and have stuck with macOS 15 will quickly notice: Transmit 6 only runs on the latest macOS version, i.e., macOS 26 alias Tahoe. The reason given: According to Panic Software, Transmit 6 uses “some technologies that are only present in macOS 26.” They know that users have “opinions” about Liquid Glass. “We understand that. But don't worry – we've charted our own course with our new, totally revamped UI in this update and landed on a mix of Panic-style and Apple-style.” The creators think Transmit 6 looks “really good.”

In fact, the new look takes some getting used to. Things that have been in their place for years are now in different locations. However, after a short familiarization period, you quickly find your way around again. Furthermore, Transmit 6 is still a very early beta, so changes may still be made based on user feedback. Panic Software has also set up a list of known bugs.
Faster Sync, Transmit Disk, and more
In addition to the new user interface, the developers have tinkered with many areas of the app. Transmit has long been more than just an FTP client; it can work with various file-sharing and cloud providers, including Amazon S3, WebDAV, Box, Backblaze, Google Drive, Azure, or OneDrive. Version 6 is said to speed up synchronization with many files, SSO support is now (finally) available for S3, and the Transmit Disk function is returning. The latter allows servers created in Transmit 6 to be mounted directly in Finder.
This existed in earlier times, but Apple changed various APIs here and enforces the use of so-called File Providers. Transmit 6 supports these, which makes its use possible again. As part of the beta phase, you should therefore continue to keep Transmit 5 – version 5.11.6 is current. If you are still using version 5.11.5 from last February, you should update to 5.11.6 before installing the Transmit 6 beta, according to Panic Software. Transmit is marketed as classic trialware: the app can be tested first, and registration then costs 45 US dollars plus sales tax.
