The TinyPod project wants to deliver immediately: an ex-product designer from Snap has given the Apple computer watch an interesting housing.

An interesting retro project is underway in the USA: the so-called TinyPod uses a special case to turn the Apple Watch into a kind of mini iPod. The computer watch is slid into a case without a wristband, which in turn can mechanically redirect the digital crown of the Apple Watch to a scroll wheel positioned at the front. The company behind the TinyPod has now started to publish further details on the various models and take initial orders. However, deliveries will not begin until the fall.
TinyPod with controls for the watch
According to the website and emails sent to interested parties, the TinyPod will be available in two versions, each of which will come in three sizes. The standard TinyPod costs 89.99 US dollars plus shipping and import VAT and comes with the aforementioned scroll wheel. The housing is made of plastic and also has matching buttons for the Apple Watch controls.
There are also speaker and microphone cut-outs, and the charging area of the computer watch is exposed at the back so that the device can still be charged via MagSafe. TinyPod offers a total of three versions based on the different Apple Watch sizes: 41/40 mm, 45/44 mm and 49 mm for the Apple Watch Ultra 1 and 2. The TinyPod lite, available this summer for 39.99 dollars plus shipping and import sales tax, is a pure case for the Apple Watch, which is apparently made of stretchable material. Here, the Watch buttons are also shown as buttons on one side, while on the other they are simply led out of the case. There is no scroll wheel.

The idea behind the Watch case
The creator behind the TinyPod and head of the small company from New York, a former design engineer manager at the messenger Snap, is particularly proud of the scroll wheel. "Yes, it really scrolls. Thanks to carefully mechanized components inside, the wheel of the TinyPod is in direct contact with the crown of the Apple Watch." This allows you to scroll naturally throughout the operating system, the TinyPod makers write.
The idea behind the TinyPod is to turn the Apple Watch into an entirely new device that, with its small screen and complete set of apps including communication, can be used as a minimalist smartphone replacement that fits in your pocket. Of course, you could continue to wear the Apple Watch on your wrist as normal, but the idea seems charming. It is not yet clear when it will be possible to test the TinyPod.
