AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X go on sale
German retailers sell the first two Zen 5 processors. Attractive competition comes from AMD itself.

AMD has released the first two AM5 processors with Zen 5 architecture for sale: the eight-core Ryzen 7 9700X (starting from 278,24 €) and the six-core Ryzen 5 9600X (starting from 193,36 €). Most German retailers are sticking to AMD's recommended retail prices of 399 and 309 euros respectively.

For many, the processors are therefore currently unattractive. Those who primarily game on desktop PCs, for example, can get the faster Ryzen 7 7800X3D (starting from 356,99 €) with extra stack cache at a lower price than the Ryzen 7 9700X and only at a small surcharge compared to the 9600X. The Ryzen 9000X3D is expected to follow in a few months – AMD has not yet communicated a specific launch date.
Alternatively, you can save a lot of money with the Ryzen 7 7700X (starting from 219,39 €) or Ryzen 5 7600 (starting from 158,90 €), with only slightly worse gaming performance. A six-core processor without special features such as 3D cache for around 300 euros simply no longer seems up to date in 2024.

9000 multi-core to follow
Those focusing on application performance, on the other hand, should wait for the 16- and 12-core Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X next week. Alternatively, the 7000 predecessors such as the Ryzen 9 7950X (starting from 654,99 €) are attractive due to price reductions far below AMD's price recommendations if you can do without the higher AVX512 performance.
The Ryzen 9000 CPUs run on the previous AM5 mainboards with 600 series chipsets. Interested parties should install an up-to-date BIOS, which can be found on the product page.
New 800 series mainboards are not yet available – they are expected to go on sale in September or October. They use the same chipsets as the 600 series boards, but with higher requirements from AMD. The X870E models, for example, must be released with additional chips for Wi-Fi 7 and USB4.
