iPad: Apple is apparently working on a new entry-level keyboard
In addition to the large Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro, a new version for cheaper Apple tablets is to be launched on the market, but not before 2025.

According to a report, Apple is working on a cheaper keyboard for the iPad. After the company unveiled a revised Magic Keyboard made of more robust aluminum in May, a successor to the Smart Keyboard Folio is now apparently set to appear. However, it is only intended for cheaper Apple tablets, according to a report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
Cheaper, but also with cheaper components
Apple's suppliers are currently working on a new iPad keyboard for next year. "This accessory is a low-end version that could be designed for an entry-level iPad or the new iPad Airs," Gurman said. More expensive components such as a metal palm rest are not planned, but other new functions are, "perhaps a function key bar".

However, anyone hoping that the device will be on sale quickly is likely to be disappointed: It is planned for mid-2025, "if everything goes according to plan". It is unclear why Apple is taking so long – The new iPad Air models with M2 SoC were also released in spring. However, it is conceivable that Apple could release a new entry-level iPad by this time. Gurman has not yet heard any prices.
Based on the Magic Keyboard Folio or a completely new design?
Apple sells the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro M4 from 349 euros for the 11-inch devices, while the 13-inch version costs a whopping 399 euros. The variant compatible with the iPad Air comes at the same price. Only the Magic Keyboard Folio for the 10th generation iPad is cheaper; it is sold by Apple for 299 euros. Its functionality is different to that of the Magic Keyboard: among other things, there is a kickstand on the back and the overall design of the keyboard is simpler.
Gurman does not say whether Apple's new iPad keyboard is based on the Magic Keyboard Folio or has a completely different design. There is currently speculation that Apple could at least update the iPad mini this year. However, the company is not yet selling a keyboard –, apparently due to the small size of the tablet.
