After a long delay: temperature control available for Eve Thermo
The problem with the Eve Thermo radiator control is that it measures the temperature directly at the radiator. Eve Thermo Control moves the sensor into the room.

Over a year ago, smart home specialist Eve, now part of the Swiss-Swedish ABB Group, announced improved temperature control for its popular HomeKit and Matter heating valves in the Eve Thermo series. However, Eve Thermo Control is only now coming onto the market. The company announced this on Tuesday. It can be ordered both from Eve itself and via Amazon. The price is just under 80 euros.
Detecting the temperature in the room instead of the heating
Eve Thermo Control solves a central problem with smart heating control: The sensors used for control are currently located directly in the valve, meaning they are too close to the heat source. Although you can set an offset by default to compensate for this, the actual air temperature in the room simply cannot be measured properly this way. Eve Thermo Control, on the other hand, can be placed anywhere in the room and therefore records much more accurately whether the heating target has been reached or not

According to Eve, Eve Thermo Control has an e-ink display that shows the selected target temperature and the heating status of the thermostat. Settings are made via the Eve or Apple Home app, Siri voice command or two capacitive buttons on the front of the device. The measurement accuracy is said to be +/- 3 percent or +/- 0.3 degrees Celsius. The system also measures humidity and can therefore activate an optional humidifier if necessary.
Matter switchover becomes a necessity
The connection between Eve Thermo Control and the network is established via Thread short-range radio technology. Accordingly, a suitable home hub is required as a Thread Border Router – for example a HomePod mini, a HomePod 2 or an Apple TV 4K from the second generation. In addition, Eve Thermo Control only works via Matter, not via HomeKit alone. This means that existing Eve Thermo models – are forced to switch to Matter, but only the fourth generation from 2020 – is supported. In practice, this is not a pleasant process and means, among other things, that a new QR code for Matter must be generated in addition to the respective firmware update and the Eve Thermo must then be integrated into the home network again. This can be annoying with many devices in the network.
What's more, Matter updates don't always work as hoped. For example, an Eve motion sensor in the Mac & i editorial office has failed completely since the Matter update –. The latter went through, but since then the motion sensor can simply no longer be added to the home network and the set-up remains stuck. Unfortunately, there are more reports of this happening – This is probably due to complex problems with the respective Thread setup or the home network. Eve also sells the Eve Thermo Control in a package together with an Eve Thermo for 159.90 euros. This has the advantage that both devices are already up to date. Individually, the heating control is available for just under 80 euros and is also Matter-capable ex works.
