Adobe has announced new features for Premiere Pro and the animation program After Effects. This includes new color management for video editing, which is due to be released in the autumn. Adobe has released it in advance as part of a beta version. A new 3D workspace for After Effects will be available immediately.
New color management for Premiere Pro
According to Adobe, the newly developed color management in Premiere Pro processes unedited RAW and LOG material from the camera during import. The editing program should automatically transform the image material of high color depth so that end devices can display it without clipping color information outside the displayable range. The time-consuming workflow with LUTs (look-up table) can thus be dispensed with.
A new wide-gamut working color space according to the ACEScct standard extends the previous HD Rec.709 working color space, which is still available for legacy projects.
Control panel for important tools
In the revised Properties Panel, beginners can find the most important functions and professionals can achieve results without long mouse movements. It brings together popular effects, settings and tools.

In the future, a context-sensitive palette will offer suitable tools based on selected objects in the timeline – video, audio, graphics or text.
According to the manufacturer, hardware acceleration brings videos to the screen faster than before. When encoded with AVC, HEVC and ProRes, Premiere Pro should be able to export three times faster than before. There are two dark and one light display mode for the interface.

3D workflow for After Effects
In the 3D workspace of Adobe After Effects, 3D elements can now be seamlessly integrated into photos and videos. 3D material initially looks unnaturally sharp and digital compared to a video recording.
After Effects simulates the shadows cast by imported 3D models in video material. According to the manufacturer, the software not only takes gray gradients into account, but also the colors. The program also uses depth maps from the video material, if available.

According to Adobe, motion designers will in future be able to import animations embedded in 3D models. The GLB or GLTF formats can, for example, contain moving skeletons for characters. The animation program also works more closely with the Substance suite, which is available separately. Substance 3D Painter can send 3D material directly to After Effects.
Adobe also provides more than 30 new presets for animations and infographics. The Windows version should work faster than before.
