Huawei Mate XT: A double-folding phone from China for 2550 euros
The next-level foldable can be unfolded from 6.4 to 7.9 and finally to a total of 10.2 inches. You get a laptop and smartphone for the price.

Huawei has unveiled a double-folding smartphone in China. The Huawei Mate XT can be folded out twice, turning the 6.4-inch cell phone into a 10.2-inch tablet. The device is then only 3.6 millimeters flat. But even when fully folded, the new Huawei foldable is only slightly thicker at 12.8 mm than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (12 mm), for example. However, the price is much higher at the equivalent of 2550 euros.
The "Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design", as it is officially called, consists of three screens. When fully folded, the OLED display measures 6.4 inches, which is now an average size for modern smartphones. Once unfolded, the screen area expands to 7.9 inches, which can be increased to 10.2 inches with a further flick of the wrist. The screen resolution increases from 2232x1008 pixels when fully folded to 2232x2048 and finally 2232x3184 pixels when unfolded. This corresponds to an aspect ratio of 16:11, whereby the device is then 219 mm wide and 156.7 mm high.
Plenty of memory, HarmonyOS and triple camera
Even in the technical specifications on its own website, Huawei does not reveal which chip powers the 298 gram Mate XT, but the cell phone comes with 16 GB of main memory. Buyers can choose between 256 or 512 GB or even 1 TByte of storage space. HarmonyOS 4.2 is pre-installed as the operating system. This version is probably still based on Android code; Huawei will only abandon Android with HarmonyOS Next.

The permanently integrated battery has a capacity of 5600 mAh and can be charged quickly using a 66-watt charger, but wireless charging is also possible with up to 50 watts. Huawei does not provide any information on operating and charging times. The camera system on the back of the device consists of three lenses. The main camera delivers 50 megapixels, the ultra-wide-angle lens 12 megapixels and a telephoto lens with 5.5x optical zoom also 12 megapixels. A selfie camera for 8 megapixels can be found on the left side of the screen.
Prices of the Huawei Mate XT, EU launch open
The Huawei Mate XT is available in China with 256 GB of storage for 19,999 RMB. This is currently equivalent to 2546 euros. The 512 GByte and 1 TByte variants are priced at 21,999 RMB (2800 euros) and 23,999 RMB (3055 euros) respectively. For these sums, users could buy a modern notebook and an equally high-quality smartphone instead of this one triple foldable.

However, it is still unclear whether the Huawei Mate XT will also be available in Europe. In principle, you can also buy Huawei phones in Germany, but current models already lack Google services. Accordingly, apps from the Google cosmos can at best be forced onto Huawei cell phones via detours. In practice, this often doesn't work, for example with streaming services and Google Pay. In addition, installing updates for apps obtained via sideloading is time-consuming.
