MagSafe: How Apple speeds up charging on the iPhone 16
Apple has improved the wireless charging capabilities of the iPhone 16. The Apple Watch Series 10 will also charge more quickly in future.

Only briefly mentioned in the Apple keynote on Monday, but extremely useful: all four new iPhone 16 models are getting faster wireless charging via MagSafe. However, anyone interested will have to buy a piece of new hardware, which is not cheap.
What MagSafe can now do and what it costs
According to Apple, the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max now offer up to 25 watts of charging power. Previously, the iPhone 15 had up to 15 watts, which, in addition to MagSafe, was also supplied to the devices via the Qi2 standard. However, there are two prerequisites for charging with 25 watts. Firstly, the existing USB-C power supply unit must provide at least 30 watts or more. Secondly, new MagSafe chargers are required, which Apple does not supply, of course, but which must be purchased separately.
The new MagSafe chargers (which have not been given their own name) are sold in lengths of 1 meter and 2 meters. The prices are 49 and 59 euros respectively. If not already available, the aforementioned 30-watt-or-higher power adapter must also be purchased. Apple's small USB-C power adapter only achieves 20 watts, so it must be at least the 30-watt or 35-watt device(the latter with two USB-C ports). You have to pay 45 or 65 euros for this. This means a minimum spend of 94 euros if you buy directly from Apple.

50 percent in 30 minutes
Apple is not currently providing any information on how much faster the 25-watt charging speed via MagSafe will be. However, Apple promises that 50 percent charging can be achieved in 30 minutes in the above configuration. Compatibility with Qi and Qi2 remains, but only 7.5 and 15 watts respectively. Fast charging via USB-C cable is also possible using a 20-watt adapter with 50 percent charge level in 30 minutes.
There is also positive news in terms of charging speed for the Apple Watch Series 10, whose magnetic charging puck can now charge up to 80 percent of its capacity in 30 minutes. 15 minutes charging time should be enough for 8 hours of normal use, 8 minutes charging time for 8 hours of sleep recording. This makes the Series 10 the "fastest charging Apple Watch ever".
