Samsung Galaxy S24 FE: "Fan Edition" with lots of competition
The Galaxy S24 FE is here, but it already has a lot of in-house competition. Samsung's strategy remains a mystery.

Samsung equips its devices in the "Fan Edition" series with the abbreviation FE. The latest member of the family is the Galaxy 24 FE, which will be available to buy from October 4. The only question is whether Samsung has really done the fans a favor with the pricing.
At 6.7 inches diagonally, the display is the same size as the Galaxy S24+, but the display edges are slightly thicker and not completely symmetrical. However, unlike the S24+, the FE is not an LTPO panel, so the refresh rate is only between 60 and 120 hertz, not down to 1 hertz. The Galaxy S24 FE has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle and an 8-megapixel triple telephoto lens on the back, while the selfie camera takes pictures with a resolution of 8 megapixels.
Centerpiece
The S24 FE is powered by an Exynos 2400e, a deca-core processor that is almost identical to the Exynos 2400 in the Galaxy S24 and S24+. The S24 FE has 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory without the option of expansion. The battery has a capacity of 4700 mAh and the maximum charging power is 25 watts. The FE draws a maximum of 15 watts wirelessly.
With Android 14 in combination with Samsung's One UI 6.1, the smartphone is up-to-date in terms of software, and Galaxy AI is also on board. Samsung also wants to provide the S24 FE with updates for seven years, and the Koreans are exemplary in this respect. The glass and metal casing is protected against water and dust to IP68.

Galaxy S24 is better and cheaper
All well and good, but who should buy the Galaxy S24 FE? In the small storage version with 128 GB, the smartphone costs €749 at launch, which is pretty much the same price as a Galaxy S24+, which is just as big but technically better. The S24+ also has twice the storage space at this price. With 256 GB of storage, the S24 FE costs 809 euros. If you can live with a slightly smaller smartphone and want to save even more, go for the Galaxy S24, which is available from just 600 euros. That leaves few arguments for the Fan Edition. Incidentally, this was also the case with its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 FE, which reportedly sold poorly.
