The date for the 38th Chaos Communication Congress has been set. The computer activists will meet at the Congress Center Hamburg between December 27 and 30 of this year. The motto for 2024 is "Illegal Instructions".
The Chaos Computer Club's announcement sets a political focus: political and legal efforts to prevent Europe from sliding into fragmented and "unfriendly surveillance and repressive societies" are becoming less and less effective and are also not sustainable. A return to good traditions is necessary: "Technical resistance against surveillance, surveying, data snorkeling and infiltration is one of the necessary components." The 38C3 therefore places a stronger focus on how "we can outwit anti-human technologies through illegal instructions".
38C3: Fun and joy are still on the agenda
Despite the dystopian setting, the focus will be on fun and enjoyment. "The Chaos Computer Club is looking forward to once again providing us and you with a huge playground between the years, where you can hack, solder, tinker, teach, learn, celebrate and network, think up utopias and projects together and, above all, have lots of fun with your devices. As always, the congress thrives on participation, so take part in assemblies, workshops, submit presentations, engel (sic) or give feedback," write the CCCers in the event blog.

"Like all previous congresses, 38C3 will be an international event that welcomes all democratically-minded ways of life and invites networking and productive cooperation," the CCC explains. "In addition to lectures, workshops and lightning talks, there will be an extensive art and cultural program and plenty of space for assemblies to explore how we can use illegal instructions to throw a spanner in the works of the digital capitalist surveillance machinery."
Presentations wanted
The CCC is still looking for interesting presentations or hacks. From the beginning of October, interested parties will be able to take part in the "Call for Participation" and thus help shape the 38C3 program. Information on participation, tickets, travel, registration of hacker spaces and other organizational details will be available shortly on the CCC event blog mentioned above.
After a three-year break, the 37th Chaos Communication Congress took place last year. After five years with a stopover at the Leipzig Exhibition Center, it returned to the Hamburg Congress Centrum (CCH), which has since been renovated.
