Quick battery replacement: iFixIt supplies power tool for iPhone 16
A 9-volt battery is actually sufficient: Apple has greatly improved the removal of the iPhone 16 battery. iFixIt now supplies inexpensive tools.

Apple has implemented an innovation in the standard version of the iPhone 16 that is not visible from the outside: The internal bonded battery is much easier to remove. A special bonding process was used for this, in which the holding capacity of the material can be "switched off" by applying a certain voltage. This means that you no longer have to bother with so-called pull tabs. The repair specialist iFixIt now has a new tool set on offer that should make this process even easier – It contains all the necessary components.
No more block batteries
The VoltClip combines two crocodile clips with a connection socket and a USB-C adapter. This means you no longer have to use a 9-volt battery, as Apple recommends, but can simply use a power supply unit that is available in the household. The only requirement is that it is a Power Delivery-capable device that spits out 9 or 12 volts. The use of laptops or smartphones as a power source is not always possible, warns iFixIt.

"We're happy to see Apple finally committing to easy battery repairs," the article description reads. "The iPhone 16 swaps out the brittle, finicky adhesive for a brand new bonding technology that can be released with an electric current." As with the Pentalobe screw, which Apple uses to secure various devices, or the "Opening Wheel" for the iMac, the challenge was met with the right tool. The VoltClip is the answer.
Debonding process in one minute
Although iFixIt does not sell the device at cost price of just under 11 US dollars, it is still sufficiently affordable. The VoltClip is not yet available in iFixIt's official EU store. The debonding process should only take a maximum of one and a half minutes, depending on the voltage. A separate instruction page shows users how to do this step by step.
Opening the housing (and closing it) is much more complex than replacing the battery. The battery practically falls towards the repairer after the solution.
