It doesn't always have to be the TV app: Infuse from Firecore offers significantly more features and now also supports custom libraries – on the Vision Pro.

Many users use Apple's integrated TV app to play (mostly purchased or rented) movies and series. Those who want more – including access to their home NAS – have been well served for years with the Infuse video player from independent developer Firecore. It is now officially available in the new version 8, which was preceded by a longer beta phase. The update includes improvements to the user interface and support for a further platform –, which should make the app one of the most universal multimedia players alongside the open source project VLC.

Infuse 8 comes with a more modern layout that should be clearer. Thanks to improved loading routines, preview videos and other elements appear more quickly on the start screen at –, especially when they have to be reloaded from the server. The playback function has been changed and now displays frequently used options such as changing the playback speed, subtitles or audio tracks more directly. The creators promise "precise control and silky-smooth playback". Adaptations to current operating systems such as iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 have also been made.

There is also a brand new Infuse version for the Vision Pro, which was announced back in the spring. It offers most of the features of the other versions – including support for Kodi, cloud services or Plex – and plays significantly more codecs than Apple's on-board tools do. What is currently still missing, however, is support for 3D films and/or immersive videos in VR180 and other formats. This is a shame, but it will be delivered "soon", but it is still incomprehensible due to the long beta phase.

With support for the Vision Pro, Infuse 8 now runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and the Apple headset. This means that not a single important Apple platform is missing, with the exception of the Apple Watch. Infuse 8 will continue to be sold as a subscription.

It costs 1.99 euros per month and 14.99 euros per year. DTS and Dolby audio can currently be activated free of charge. If you want to purchase Infuse "for life", you pay 99.99 euros. The minimum requirements are iOS / iPadOS 15, macOS 12 and visionOS 2.
