iPhone 16 (Pro): Users report random restarts
There are increasing reports in forums about iPhone restarts that occur unexpectedly and several times a day.

Various iPhone 16 models restart unexpectedly. Users report that the problem comes out of the blue – even when the iPhone is unused and locked: First, the system freezes or at least becomes very slow. The device then restarts. According to reports, the process occurs not only with iOS 18.0, but also with 18.0.1.
Reboots not only with Phone 16 Pro
The first such user reports emerged in the second half of September, i.e. after the launch of the new iPhones and the release of iOS 18. MacRumors, which drew attention to the problem on Friday evening, initially assumed that only the Pro models were affected –, i.e. iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. However, the statements in Apple's support area, on Reddit and MacRumors itself indicate that the bug can also occur in other models such as the iPhone 16.
Some users are affected around once a day, while some claim to have noticed the restart 10 to 20 times a day. And probably the vast majority of iPhone owners can report nothing of the sort. We have also not observed the unexpected restart in the smartphone models in the editorial department.

Solution unclear
What can effectively eliminate the problem is currently just as uncertain as the question of where it comes from. iOS 18.0.1 is said to have eliminated the error for one user, but not for others. For some users, the restarts are said to have occurred even after replacing the device. This suggests that the error lies in the iCloud backup used. Some speculations point to a faulty app.
Setting up the device as a new one appears to be able to solve the problem, but this is not an option for many users due to the time and effort involved. If you don't want to wait for an update, you can try the following procedure: First shoot all apps (swipe from the bottom to the center so that the app changer starts. Slide the apps upwards here), then restart the device. If it does not respond, a forced restart will help: press the volume up button, then press the volume down button, then hold down the side button until the Apple logo appears.
Déjà vu iPhone restart
The problem is reminiscent of a bug that occurred last fall: numerous readers reported that their iPhone with iOS 17 would crash and restart overnight. The necessary device code entry in the morning, sometimes also the SIM PIN and the battery statistics revealed the bug, which also occurred on an editorial device.
At the beginning of October, Apple at least fixed a few annoying bugs with iOS 18.0.1, including the lack of touchscreen reliability, an IMAP problem in the Mail app and the reading out of passwords via VoiceOver.
