ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence: Apple makes preparations
The first Apple Intelligence features should be available in October. However, Apple is already preparing for the next round of innovations.

Apple will apparently implement the announced integration of ChatGPT in iOS, iPadOS and macOS relatively quickly. This is based on backend code discovered by Macrumors. The voice assistance system from OpenAI should be able to be called up on request via Siri either by voice or text input. It could come together with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2, which are expected to be released in December.
Apple Intelligence only available as a beta so far
Apple's AI system is not yet officially available for use; only participants in the developer beta and the public beta have access to the first parts of Apple Intelligence. ChatGPT is not yet part of this. Instead, only text generation and notification summaries as well as some image editing features are available in the Photos app for the time being. Image generators ("Genmoji" for AI emojis and "Image Playground" for generating comic-like drawings) cannot yet be tested.

Apple had already announced that it would proceed step by step with the introduction of Apple Intelligence. ChatGPT will be available "later this year", but a fully revised Siri will probably not be available until spring 2025 with iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3. This also means that Apple users will initially receive a kind of "third-party" voice assistant with ChatGPT via Siri. ChatGPT will always take over (on request) when Siri is at a loss.
"Visual Intelligence" has also emerged
In addition to ChatGPT, references to "Visual Intelligence" are also said to have surfaced in Apple's backend code. This refers to a new feature that Apple can use to analyze photos or camera recordings, for example to gather more information about locations from the web. In connection with ChatGPT, references to generating images via Dall-E (also OpenAI) can also be found in the code. This would allow users to use the (presumably more realistic) variants of OpenAI in addition to Apple's image generators.
iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1 are currently expected at the end of October, possibly as early as next Monday. Apple is apparently using the latest model of OpenAI called GPT-4o for ChatGPT. The implementation was carried out in such a way that no user data can flow to OpenAI. However, it will also be possible to register a paid OpenAI account. Apple Intelligence will not initially be available in the EU.
