iPhone SE 4: Apple allegedly considering a larger model
Dummy models of Apple's next entry-level iPhone model have appeared in Asia. A Plus model was apparently also planned. Production will start soon.

According to a report from Japan, Apple is considering giving the upcoming iPhone SE 4 a larger version. At least that is the assumption of manufacturers of dummy products, which are intended to help producers of iPhone cases with their work. As the Apple blog Macotakara writes, in addition to the standard 6.1-inch iPhone SE 4 model , a 6.7-inch version would also have been conceivable. It wouldn't be really difficult for Apple to implement: the new entry-level iPhone would be based on the form factor of the iPhone 14 from 2022, which itself was already available as a standard and Plus model (then with 6.7 inches).
Old cases fit
The corresponding dummies are circulating on the Chinese trading portal Alibaba; they are 3D-printed mock-ups. The iPhone SE 4 with 6.1 inches is therefore the same size as the iPhone 14, the only new feature is the USB-C port instead of Lightning. Another difference is a slightly smaller mute switch. The Alibaba shippers claim that Apple had also planned to offer a 6.7-inch model of the SE 4. However, the company has probably since abandoned this plan.

It is interesting to note that cases for the iPhone 14 also look good on the dummy – so they can apparently still be used. It was also leaked in the meantime that Apple will not be giving the SE 4 an action button or a camera control, as these are reserved for the regular iPhones. While the form factor of the iPhone SE 4 appears to be unchanged from the iPhone 14, there are significant changes on the inside. Apple is probably installing a current A18 SoC with 8 GB (for Apple Intelligence) plus a new 48-megapixel camera from the iPhone 15. The 5G modem is to come from Apple for the first time and integrate Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips directly. The screen is OLED for the first time (as on the iPhone 14) and there is a notch for Face ID facial recognition.
Production to start soon
Meanwhile, there are also reports on the production of the iPhone SE 4. The usually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the new SE will go into mass production from December.
From December 2024 to the first quarter of 2025, Apple is reportedly planning to produce around 8.6 million units. This could have an impact on sales in the first half of the year, as the SE4 is (presumably) significantly cheaper than the regular iPhone 16 models at an entry-level price of just under USD 500.
