Apple held an event last week at which the company presented the new gaming options on its platforms. According to the Japanese Apple blog Macotakara, the "Gaming Experience Event" took place in New York City and was aimed at media representatives and apparently also employees from the industry.

The event also focused on gaming on key Apple platforms such as iOS, iPadOS and macOS, with Apple also presenting the new features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15 Sequoia. According to Macotakara, various new and current titles could be tried out during the "Experience" on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPad Pro M4, MacBook Pro (14 and 16) with M3, MacBook Air M3 and iMac (M3). These included "BIOHAZARD 7 Resident Evil" from Capcom, "Frostpunk 2" from 11 bit, "Assassin's Creed Mirage" from Ubisoft and "Diablo Immortal" from Blizzard - all titles that are already available. In addition, visitors were able to see "Palworld" from Pocketpair, which is due to be released later this year.

Apple also presented various gaming hardware such as the Backbone One Mobile Gaming Controller, the second generation of which is now also available with USB-C for the iPhone 15. It was also possible to test how the new Game Mode feels, which Apple is now also bringing to the iPhone to reduce latency and make all the hardware available for gaming (and reduce background processes).

According to Macotakara, the use of an iPad Pro M4 with a Sony DualSense controller, which was appropriately colored in "Midnight Black", was also interesting. Apple emphasized that the Game Mode in iOS 18, which is also included in iPadOS 18, doubles the polling rate for Bluetooth gaming hardware, among other things. This allows for even more accurate gaming, according to the company. Audio latency has also been reduced.

Apple also announced that macOS 15 requires less free memory to download games from the Mac App Store, which is very useful for larger titles. It will also be possible to save parts to an external medium. "Palworld" uses Unreal Engine 5 and the latest incarnation of Metal, including HDR and MetalFX upscaling. The Game Porting Toolkit 2, which will be released with iOS 18 and Co. in September, will also make it easier to port games to mobile platforms. According to Apple, its "Unified Gaming Platform" now reaches around 100 million devices. The use of CrossOver Mac to play Steam titles on Windows was also on show in New York.
