SmartHome at CES 2025: tricky cameras, more Matter, playful light

Nanoleaf caused a stir with a non-smart product. The LED Light Therapy Face Mask is a rubber mask that you put over your face and attach to the back of your head with Velcro. Eyes, nose and mouth remain uncovered. Inside, the mask is fully equipped with LED units that light up in red, green, blue, yellow, pink, and white. Due to the high infrared content, a regular light shower lasting five to ten minutes is said to counteract blemished and wrinkled skin. The US FDA has certified the mask as a health product.
During a product demo, the mask was not uncomfortable to wear, but did not create a feel-good atmosphere either. The one-off sample was not enough to make the skin visibly prettier. The duration and light color can be selected using a wired remote control. The mask cannot be accessed wirelessly or via the manufacturer's app.
The smart home brand wants to reach new customers with this “unsmart” product. However, a product manager commented that the company still feels at home because of its LED expertise. The mask will be available for 150 euros.
For existing customers of smart Nanoleaf hardware, the manufacturer announced the launch of a paid subscription that will activate additional software functions in the future. For two euros per month or 20 euros per year, the premium offer, which can be booked immediately, offers access to the new Orchestrator light organ variant in the Nanoleaf PC software.
The function does not analyze music with a microphone, but instead captures the data digitally. This is intended to shorten the signal runtime and match beats and light patterns more precisely. Nanoleaf's approach is similar to the cooperation between Philips Hue and Spotify, but is not limited to certain streaming services.
