visionOS 2.2: Wide and panoramic image for virtual Mac coming
The function announced back in the summer, which allows Macs to be better displayed within the headset, is now finally coming. But only as a beta.

Apple is finally implementing a long-announced innovation for the Vision Pro: the optimized display of Mac content on the computer glasses. This was reported by beta testers of visionOS 2.2, which has been available for download since this week. The function was actually promised back in summer 2024 at the WWDC developer conference to improve the use of the headset for productivity applications. It is unclear why Apple has not yet managed to actually integrate it into the operating system.
Two new modes, more space for the Mac
The so-called Mac Virtual Display, with which you can bring Apple computers into the Vision Pro interface with just one click, now has new panoramic displays. Firstly, the resolution is increased, but a new ultra-wide mode also makes it possible to arrange two virtual 4K monitors next to each other. This was previously only possible with tricks and additional apps.

A total of three variants are now available: "Normal" (the familiar mode), "Wide" and "Ultra-Wide". With "Wide", around four apps can be placed next to each other without it becoming too cramped. "Ultra-Wide" makes the window even larger, but also means that you have to turn more often to see everything. Unfortunately, Apple has not implemented separate virtual monitors: instead, there is only one window in ultra-wide mode – but with twice the 4K resolution, as Apple says.
Update will probably be released in December
Further improvements concern the display quality. Apple is making further improvements here, as the company had already announced. However, there is one fly in the ointment: all new modes only work if the Mac is running the latest macOS – in this case the beta of macOS 15.2 alias Sequoia. Older macOS versions continue to work as usual in the old resolution. Apple seems to be trying to encourage users to update more quickly. However, it is also possible that the company first had to implement changes in macOS to enable the new displays. It is unlikely that older operating system versions will also benefit from this.
visionOS 2.2 is likely to be released this year, we assume at the beginning of December. A test with developers is currently underway. As usual, the beta should only be installed if there is no important information on the device; errors and data loss may still occur, as is normal with pre-release versions.
