Renault has managed to attract a lot of attention with the new R5 in retro design. At the start of sales, only the top model with a 110 kW engine and 52 kWh battery was initially available. Renault has now added the variant that is likely to become the bestseller. In the "Urban Range", the electric motor has an output of 90 kW and the battery has an energy content of 40 kWh. Unlike the base model planned for next year, the battery can also be supplied with direct current.

The new version will be offered in three equipment lines starting at a price of 27,900 euros ("Evolution"). The higher-value "Techno" (from 29,990 euros) and "Iconic" (from 31,400 euros) versions use the same drivetrain. The electric motor delivers 90 kW and 225 Nm without the use of rare earth metals. The battery relies on the cell chemistry of nickel, manganese and cobalt at the cathode. It can be charged with up to 80 kW of direct current and a maximum of 11 kW of alternating current. In the WLTP, Renault promises a range of 312 km and a consumption of 14.8 kWh/100 km. A heat pump is fitted as standard.

The short list of options for the Evolution equipment includes a winter package with heated seats (400 euros) and an adapter for the use of "Vehicle-to-Load" for 200 euros. This allows the traction battery to be tapped with up to 3.3 kW. If you like, you can tow a trailer weighing up to 500 kg with the R5. The basic version of the R5 will be available from 24,900 euros at the beginning of next year. It can only be charged using alternating current. What is still missing from the range, however, is the combination of the 90 kW engine and the 52 kWh battery.
