iPhone SE 4: With or without notch?
It won't be long before Apple finally upgrades its entry-level iPhone. There is controversy in the rumor mill regarding the screen used.

Will Apple's long-awaited fourth-generation iPhone SE have a Dynamic Island for the first time? Or will it remain with the outdated "notch", the notch for the selfie camera and TrueDepth module for facial recognition that Apple has been using since the iPhone X from 2017? Rarely has the Apple rumor mill argued about a small detail as much as it does now. For example, several well-known X leakers have come forward with images from Asia showing display glasses and dummies that leave room for Apple's new display area, which was introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro. And the first indications that the Dynamic Island would be included in the new SE emerged a year ago. However, not all experts believe this. The usually well-informed display analyst Ross Young wrote this week that the information that the iPhone SE 4 will have a "notch like the iPhone 14" is "correct". Below we summarize the pros and cons of Apple's decision.
Pro: An island for everyone
The iPhone SE 4 should bring some interesting innovations. These include the fact that Apple's entry-level iPhone, which will remain on the market for several years, will for the first time have a full screen without a home button and Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Instead, Face ID facial recognition is to be integrated for the first time. The standard version of the iPhone 14 is supposedly the model, but it comes with the aforementioned notch.
However, Apple could swap this for a Dynamic Island on the SE 4 to make the model (more) future-proof: If the entry-level device also has a Dynamic Island, more developers are likely to be interested in it, meaning they would no longer have to develop for two platforms, so to speak. As the SE 4 should also be at the cutting edge in other areas (SoC, new 5G and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module from Apple), this would be a logical decision.

Contra: Apple remains frugal
The price is the central contra-argument: the iPhone SE 4 is expected to cost around 500 to 530 euros to start with, if all goes well. Every euro counts. Accordingly, Apple could use components from the iPhone 14, which are cheap and readily available, instead of possibly having to create its own design if the display with Dynamic Island from the iPhone 15 does not fit. It is also conceivable that Apple would like to differentiate the iPhone SE 4 more strongly from the standard iPhones and therefore not install top technology.
Whatever happens, it won't be long before the mystery is solved: the iPhone SE 4 is already planned for spring. A release date in or even before March is quite conceivable.
