Nextcloud has released Hub 10, a new version of its collaboration software. It now features an AI agent, end-to-end encryption for video calls and faster file uploads. Nextcloud Hub combines the cloud, office, and conference modules into one platform. At the same time, Nextcloud wants to establish itself as a competitor to Microsoft with the new version.
AI agent writes emails
As part of the Nextcloud Assistant, there is an open-source AI agent in Hub 10. It is designed to gather information from various Nextcloud applications and perform actions for users. Such actions include creating calendar entries, reading messages or writing emails. It also has access to files, chats, contacts or external services such as the weather report. According to the company, the functions of the AI agent can be hosted entirely by the user. Organizations can decide for themselves whether they want to use third-party AI services.

With the integration of the assistant in Nextcloud Mail, email conversations can be summarized and translated using artificial intelligence. In addition, the translation function now has GPU support. In the Talk video conferencing module, the AI tool collates the content of chat messages and meetings so that users can receive the information they missed after a vacation or illness without having to read all the messages. Users can also have the AI assistant check their texts for errors and change the tone of voice.
File upload is up to six times faster
Nextcloud Hub 10 users can protect their video calls in Talk with end-to-end encryption (E2EE). Both the Nextcloud clients and the web applications support secure calls. E2EE also includes optional web access to encrypted files. These can be managed and downloaded in the browser after entering the respective mnemonic. In the new version, administrators can also adjust the number of login attempts and activate additional security functions for apps, such as Face ID or stronger requirements for passwords.
Apart from this, files are uploaded in blocks in Hub 10. If the appropriate bandwidth is available, files can be uploaded up to six times faster. The program also resumes the upload at the appropriate point after an interruption. Users can also convert files into other file formats directly via the context menu, such as converting a Word document into a PDF, without having to open an Office application.

Nextcloud gets OpenProject integration
Other new features include the AppAPI interface, which is now directly integrated into the Nextcloud applications and enables developers to connect their apps to the software. There are also integrations for the DocuSign alternative Documenso, XWiki, Zulip and the project management tool OpenProject, which recently added new functions with version 15.3. The Nextcloud team has also revised the user interface, which includes compact chats and colored file tags. Details on all updates can be found in the blog.
