Apple Intelligence coming soon to the App Store
Apple is starting to use parts of Apple Intelligence in other system areas. The App Store makes the start with iOS 18.4.

Apple's in-house AI technology is gradually conquering the components of macOS and iOS: After the writing tools (Writing Tools), the image generators (including Image Playground) and the AI summaries for notifications, Apple Intelligence is now also landing in the App Store. This is what iOS 18.4 beta testers have discovered.
Reviews summarized
In the second developer preview version of the operating system, which is expected in April, Apple wants to improve the user experience when browsing the software store. If a number of user reviews are available, Apple Intelligence will now automatically summarize them in the App Store application. "Automatically summarized from reviews" is then written underneath, supplemented by the icon that Apple already uses for summaries of notifications.

It initially remained unclear whether the function was implemented locally on the device or runs in Apple's cloud. As this is public data, handling it directly on Apple's servers would not actually be a privacy issue. Apple takes data protection very seriously with Apple Intelligence and often relies on large local language models and image generators. If these are not sufficient, private cloud compute technology is used, in which user information is encrypted and processed in Apple's data centers without the company finding out the content.
Larger database than for news
The aggregation of user ratings is nothing new. Amazon has had a similar function for its star reviews for several months now. It appears above the user-generated ratings and is intended to provide a quick overview. Apple, for example, says that a game app is "complex" but also a "worthwhile challenge". However, criticism is also summarized, for example because the game is too short or too lengthy.
Apple had previously put its foot in its mouth with its summary function (AI Summaries). For example, news from the BBC was combined incorrectly into fake news and private iMessage messages. However, the available database here is very small, whereas there are often dozens to thousands of app store reviews. It should therefore be easier for the language model to do its job here. Apple Intelligence will also be available in German for the first time with IOS 18.4 in April.
