New CarPlay again not in the new Porsche
The sports car manufacturer's PCM infotainment system may be getting prettier, but there is still no sign of Apple's next-generation CarPlay.

Apple's next-generation CarPlay, aka CarPlay 2.0, is becoming a never-ending story. Apple had already announced the expansion of its iPhone vehicle integration to include various in-car features in 2022, but neither in 2023, the actual year of implementation, nor in 2024 did the technology appear in any model. Instead, Apple recently had to announce in January that the new CarPlay is still to come – although the company's website previously stated that it would be ready by the end of 2024. However, one expected brand is (initially) not participating: Porsche has now shown its new car entertainment in its current new cars, but the new CarPlay is not included this time either.
Porsche was considered a beacon of hope for CarPlay 2.0
Neither the new Cayenne, Panamera, Taycan nor 911 models feature the technology. The "Porsche Communication Management", or PCM for short, relies on more of its own apps, including its own App Center, where you can also obtain third-party products. Previously, Porsche at least was expected to release its first model with the new CarPlay in 2024; Aston Martin, on the other hand, had already given a demonstration to the press in 2023. The list of potential partners for CarPlay 2.0 is also long: Audi, Ford, Renault, Volvo, Honda, Land Rover, Jaguar, Polestar, Nissan, Acura, Infiniti and Lincoln are also on it.
While CarPlay is currently mainly located on the car's main display – plus the option to take over parts of the instrument cluster – CarPlay 2.0 is to be installed much deeper in the vehicle. It should be possible to control the air conditioning, radio and various other features directly from CarPlay. To ensure that the cars still look like the right brand, there are special "gauge cluster designs" that manufacturers can adapt. The instrument cluster will therefore always retain the brand look.

PCM supports CarPlay and Android Auto – but no longer
With the new PCM in the Cayenne and other models, Porsche will continue to offer CarPlay and Android Auto – but without the hoped-for deeper integration of Apple technology. Instead, Amazon's Alexa is available as a standard voice assistant – How this fits in with Porsche's image remains unclear. The sports car manufacturer also claims to have accelerated its PCM and improved its UI and UX.
Dolby Atmos is also available if you have ordered a Burmester or Bose sound system. PCM and the new models have been available to order since this week. It remains to be seen when CarPlay 2.0 will finally be available and from which brand.
