The once very popular macOS universal tool Quicksilver, with which you can launch apps and do various other useful things, is now ready for Sequoia alias macOS 15. The update to version 2.5 is available for download on GitHub (but not yet on the official website) and also provides other new features.

Although the application was already running under Sequoia before, it was not really ideal. Co-developer @pjrobertson therefore worked an extra shift and delivered many fixes for macOS 15. Sequoia itself has been available for end users since September, so it took a few months for the adjustments to be completed.

However, development could be faster in the future: Quicksilver is being made ready for Apple's Swift programming language. However, older macOS versions below macOS 13 will lose support in future, the team warns. Previously, the creators had turned off the use of various private APIs in version 2.4.2 in October, which unfortunately removed some popular animations from the app.

Quicksilver once had many fans. The launcher part of the application competes with Alfred, among others. The purpose of the app is to enable many user actions to be carried out directly from the launcher. This includes accessing documents, browsing the file system and managing content using drag & drop. A plug-in interface allows the integration of numerous other apps and features.

However, the app is notorious for its lengthy development cycle. Version 1.0 was reached after no less than ten years. It is therefore great to see that the small team continues to develop –, even if there is often only an update once a year. The application is open source, so anyone who feels called upon can help develop – and give the project new impetus if necessary. Alternatively, you can also donate to Quicksilver, the creators will be delighted. Collaboration on the app's translation project is also welcome.
