Genesis G80 Electrified: More wheelbase, more range

It is an unwritten rule in product argumentation: things like a change of stitching on the steering wheel or even a change of color on the underbody protection are enough to declare a completely new model. Genesis, on the other hand, is taking a different approach: the G80 saloon has been redesigned, and the brand has intervened heavily. A 13 cm longer wheelbase and a battery with a higher energy content should attract more customers than before.

The G80 will be delivered as early as June, but Genesis has so far been very reticent to provide specific information. The extended wheelbase should provide even more space, especially in the second row, and improved seats should improve comfort. If you like, you can operate the doors and sun visors with electric motors. Hopefully, the doors will close more quietly than experienced in the BMW i7.

Sterilized

The Digital Key 2.0 is also offered in other models of the Hyundai Group, to which Genesis belongs. With it, you no longer need a key to get into the car and start it. A stored fingerprint is sufficient. The idea of an antibacterial sterilization system for external devices such as smartphones is unusual. According to Genesis, 99.9 percent of all bacteria and germs can be removed within ten minutes in a storage compartment in the center console. A Bang&Olufsen sound system with Dolby Atmos also comes as standard.

A little more range

In January 2025, Genesis positioned itself in the drive sector: Internal combustion engines have had their day in the medium term, while hybrid drives will remain for now. The G80 and the two G70 versions with petrol or diesel engines will be phased out of the range this year. Consequently, the announcement on the revision of the G80 only mentions the battery-electric version. The battery has been increased from 87.2 to 94.5 kWh. The range in the WLTP increases from 520 to 570 km. For charging from 10 to 80 percent, Genesis specifies a time of 25 minutes – three minutes more than before. This means that an average of 159 kW is charged in this window under ideal conditions; charging losses still have to be added. As in many of the Group's models, the manufacturer also relies on a voltage level of 800 volts.

Genesis has not yet announced any prices for the revised G80. So far, the starting price has been 73,580 euros, including a very generous standard equipment package and five years of maintenance including a replacement vehicle. The manufacturer also promises to pick up the car itself for maintenance work at home and bring it back again. Such extras can cost a few thousand euros extra with other manufacturers if they are offered at all.
