Renault and Nissan have been working together for many years and are now set to intensify their collaboration. One sign of this is the cooperation in the small car segment. The Renault 5 E-Tech delivered a convincing performance in the test, and it is to be expected that the new Nissan Micra on the same platform will be no worse.

Like the Renault, the Nissan also has an unusual design. With the semicircles above and below the headlights, it at least has a face in the crowd. Nissan describes the design with the words bold and playful, but the creativity of the press release authors remains unmatched. A one-centimetre-wide indentation at waistline level is reminiscent of the shape created by an ice cream scoop, they say. Thesis: Without this mention, it would probably have somehow gone unnoticed.

Like the R5, the Micra will be offered exclusively as an electric car. There will be two drive configurations for the launch at the end of 2025. The base model will have a battery with 40 kWh, which can be charged with up to 80 kW. The range in the WLTP is expected to be 310 km. With 90 kW and 225 Nm, even the entry-level model is quite well motorized. In the top-of-the-range model, the driver can rely on 110 kW and 245 Nm. A battery with 52 kWh should enable up to 408 km in the WLTP. Both range figures are still provisional, as final homologation is still pending. Both batteries can be tapped for external applications.

With a length of 3.97 m, the Micra is a few centimetres shorter than a Peugeot e-208, for example. However, it has the same wheelbase: the Micra measures 2.54 m between the axles. The trunk has a capacity of 326 to 1106 liters – which also speaks for a comparatively clever use of traffic space.

Renault-Nissan has teamed up with Google for the infotainment system. The system has been christened NissanConnect, but is, of course, based on Android Automotive at its core. Every Micra therefore has Google Maps integrated, and the route planner also works with this map data. A heat pump and preconditioning of the battery cells, which the small Nissan has in both versions, are by no means a matter of course in this class. It will be interesting to see whether there will also be an entry-level model of the Nissan Micra without the option of DC charging. Renault has announced this for the 5 E-Tech, but has not yet included it in the price list.

For an additional charge, the Micra will be available with an assistance package that includes adaptive cruise control. Nissan is not venturing any further in this class when it comes to assistance, which is hardly surprising given the development effort involved. In this segment, the costs for such systems are unlikely to be recouped. A good six months before the market launch, Nissan is not yet revealing the prices. We expect them to be very similar to those of the R5 E-Tech. This is currently available from 27,900 euros.
