Opel: Freaky computer gimmicks with Corsa successor

Opel is presenting a dream for speed fetishists at the IAA in Munich with the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept study: the compact dimensions of the future Corsa combined with 588 kW. It is Opel's contribution to the Gran Turismo 7 computer game and more of a good-humored finger exercise by the designers. What is more interesting, however, is that underneath all the steroids and Botox of this battery-electric racing machine is probably a first glimpse of the next generation of the Opel Corsa.

The Corsa GSE Vision study with two 350 kW electric motors, a total output of 588 kW and 800 Nm of torque will only appear in the Gran Turismo 7 video game. This should enable the virtual racer to accelerate to 100 km/h in two seconds and reach a top speed of 320 km/h. To achieve this, the driver can use a boost function in the Gran Turismo game, which adds another 59 kW in four seconds. The two electric motors are powered by an 82 kWh battery pack in the underbody. In contrast, the current Corsa Elektro is limited to 150 km/h. That's how far apart dream and reality sometimes are. After all, the new battery-electric Opel Mokka GSE delivers 206 kW.

To ensure that the power of the Corsa GSE Vision Gran Turismo reaches the road, at least in theory and in the video game, the designers have come up with sophisticated aerodynamics with active elements at the rear. Thanks to particularly lightweight materials, such a vehicle would not even weigh 1.2  tons. Inside, the IAA study offers a decidedly purist and reduced cockpit with lightweight sports seats.
