Presentation of the Peugeot 308 facelift: battery only minimally enlarged

Peugeot is revamping the 308 and equipping the electric version with a slightly larger battery. However, the progress is very timid.

Peugeot has also been offering the 308 as an electric car for two years. It is one of the few estate cars with a battery-electric drive. Now comes an update of the model series, which changes the car more visually than technically. Only slight progress has been made with the key data for the electric drive, which is likely to disappoint some people who have been waiting for a big step forward.

The front of the revised 308 is also adorned with a continuous strip of lights, as can now be found on some manufacturers' models. In general, the front appears somewhat more streamlined and less jagged. The sides and rear have hardly changed. In the interior, the instrument cluster has been given some fresh graphics. The idea of being able to assign favorite functions to five touch fields remains very practical – exemplary.

The revised 308 is available with four engines, all of which are already familiar from the Group's models. The base petrol engine is a hybrid with 107 kW, while the only diesel available from spring 2026 is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 96 kW. The plug-in hybrid will have a 17.2 kWh battery, which should be sufficient for up to 85 km of purely electric driving in the WLTP. Its system output is 143 kW, of which a petrol engine contributes 110 and an electric motor 92 kW. Because the question keeps coming up: as is so often the case, the addition of the two drives does not correspond to the system output due to different gear ratios. Many potential buyers will be disappointed that the charging performance remains slow. A maximum of 3.7 kW can be charged as standard. The optional charger allows 7.4 kW, but this can generally only be used at public charging stations, as Stellantis leaves it at one phase for an additional charge.

Some potential customers may also be disappointed that Stellantis has not at least given the e-308 the same package as the DS4. The Peugeot does get the slightly larger battery with 55.4 kWh (net), which should last for up to 450 km in the WLTP. However, according to the manufacturer's initial description, the charging power in the Peugeot remains at 100 kW, while the DS4 is said to have a peak of at least 120 kW –, which is not a brilliant figure either. Peugeot specifies 32 minutes for charging from 20(!) to 80 percent. This puts the average charging power in this window at around 62 kW, to which the charging losses must be added. This value only applies under ideal conditions, and Peugeot does not provide any information on preconditioning the battery cells in the first letter.

To translate that: If you start with a full battery, assuming 18 kWh/100 km highway consumption, you should get around 250 km before you reach the 20 percent stated by Peugeot. An increase from 60 to 80 percent of the usable energy content corresponds to around 33 kWh, which should be enough for 170 to 180 km. Stellantis is also keeping the more powerful engine of the DS4 for the e-308: It remains at 115 kW and 270 Nm. The brand plans to add Plug&Charge and Vehicle to Load in May 2026.

Peugeot has not yet said when the revised 308 will be in dealerships. There is also no new price list yet, but we expect only a moderate increase – if at all. After all, the Peugeot 308 cannot be counted as a bargain. In the price list dated August 14, 2025, the base model is listed at 34,110 euros, while the least expensive estate is expected to cost 35,140 euros. For those who prefer the electric drive, the most recent price was 42,435 euros, which goes some way to explaining the meagre sales figures for the e-308. For this sum, prospective buyers can certainly get strong competitors, provided they are comfortable with the SUV format.
