Multipass: Tesla looks beyond the horizon for charging stations in future
Tesla wants to make it easier for its customers to use charging stations from other providers. The big question with the Multipass is at what price this will be

Tesla is introducing a new function called "Multipass" in the Netherlands first. The company announced this on X. This enables the US car manufacturer to use charging stations from other providers using the vehicle key card or Tesla app. Tesla owners can use the vehicle app to find charging stations from other providers, start charging processes there, and settle the bill using the payment method stored with Tesla. The company has announced that it will soon roll out the function in other countries.
Until now, Tesla has focused on its Supercharger network when it comes to charging stations. The charging points are included in the vehicle's route planning, for example. The 250th charging station was opened in Germany in spring 2025. At that time, there were a total of 3200 charging stations. Across Europe, there will be over 18,000 Superchargers at over 1450 locations. However, despite the large number of charging points, the network is anything but seamless. As a result, Tesla drivers are also dependent on other charging providers. They had to get charging cards and apps from other providers.
It pays to take a closer look
With the Multipass, this is now all possible via Tesla itself. However, it remains questionable whether this does not result in a price disadvantage. If electric car drivers don't look closely, they can lose a lot of money unnecessarily when charging. It's worth taking a closer look, because the price differences are immense, depending on the charging card. Often, differences of between 20 and 50 cents per kilowatt hour can be observed.

However, it is questionable whether the Multipass will change this. The actual added value of more frequent use will primarily depend on the prices at which Tesla offers charging from other providers. The reality is that almost every charging card on the market also enables charging via other providers. However, the roaming fees are sometimes immense. Observers are now eagerly awaiting Tesla to see whether the Multipass is simply a roaming function like those of other providers, or whether the e-car manufacturer has been able to negotiate better conditions with other providers.
