The US startup iMogul presents an AI platform that analyzes screenplays and provides market data for producers. Does AI make television better?

The mobile app iMogul from the US startup of the same name is intended to enable automated evaluation of screenplays. The software is aimed at writers and producers of films and TV series. It analyzes submitted scripts for structure, characters, dialogue, pacing, themes, and genre classification.
The provider is still at the beginning; so far, the app is only available for iOS. An Android version is expected to follow in the next three months. A subscription for 30 US dollars per month is required for use. The provider integrates ChatGPT via the OpenAI API to provide the AI service, iMogul co-founder Chris LeSchack told heise online at the CES.
Automatically generated accompanying materials
Screenplays can be uploaded to the iMogul platform as PDF documents, which it then processes automatically. According to the provider, no special text markup is necessary. iMogul is expected to provide an analysis within a short time, based on common evaluation criteria.
Based on the analysis, iMogul creates text modules such as the core idea of the story in one sentence (logline), a concise, structured summary of the plot (synopsis), and short texts that writers can use to present their film or series idea to producers, broadcasters, streaming services, or funding bodies (pitch).

For this purpose, the AI extracts the main character and the central conflict, for example. The texts can be edited by the user to adapt them to their tonality and thus use them more effectively in submissions and presentations.

Market and target group assessment
Another component of the AI analysis is a market report that considers comparable films and series, target audiences, budget ranges, international marketability, and possible distribution channels. To achieve this, the platform combines its content analysis with data on genre trends and audience interest.
Users can also publish excerpts of their screenplays via the platform to gather reactions from the iMogul community. Votes, comments, and virtual support are incorporated as additional data points in the evaluation and are intended to provide insights into resonance and positioning.
From content data and user reactions, iMogul derives assessments of economic feasibility. This includes indications of suitable distribution platforms budget sizes, as well as suggestions for casting, directing, and possible filming locations, considering funding and tax incentives.
Currently, many authors upload their screenplays to Reddit in the hope that Netflix or other major Hollywood studios will notice them, according to LeSchack. iMogul is intended to establish a direct connection between authors and producers.
Expansion for actors planned
As part of CES, iMogul announced an “Actor Module.” Actors will be able to upload profiles and audition tapes there in the future. Audience ratings are intended to be incorporated into casting recommendations.
