Opel Corsa GSE presented: A final boost
The popular compact car gets a 207 kW electric motor about a year before the end of this generation. A bargain is not to be expected.

The current, sixth generation of the Corsa has held its own. Although it has been on the market since 2019, the compact car is one of the bestsellers in its segment. We expect a successor next year. Before that, the current model will receive a kind of attention booster: with a powerful electric motor, the Corsa GSE is set to become a sports car.
Faster than the others
So far, the Corsa Electric has been available with 100 and 115 kW. The GSE will get the electric motor already known from the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce and Opel Mokka GSE (Test). It delivers 207 kW and offers 345 Nm of torque. Opel states 5.5 seconds for the sprint to 100 km/h and promises a top speed of 180 km/h. At least in terms of acceleration, the Corsa GSE leaves all other current models of the brand behind.

Of course, it remains front-wheel drive, but for a niche model, Opel is making a considerable effort to change the driving experience. A Torsen limited-slip differential is intended to help transfer power to the road. A sports suspension, stabilizers, and a four-piston brake system with larger discs will, as in the Mokka GSE, shift the driving experience. This is rounded off by a wheel-tire combination that includes 215/40 tires on 18-inch rims. Until now, this Corsa generation was only delivered from the factory with rims that were a maximum of 17 inches in size.

Unchanged battery
Opel has not touched the storage equipment. It remains at 51 kWh net and a maximum charging power of 100 kW. Preconditioning of the battery cells, which would accelerate DC charging in winter, is not available. Opel may catch up in this regard with the next Corsa.

Since even the Mokka GSE was priced surprisingly confidently with a list price of 47,300 euros, we do not expect a special offer for the Corsa GSE. The interested party will likely have to expect more than 40,000 euros. At least the standard equipment is pleasingly extensive: the half-shell seats and steering wheel are heated, the key can stay in your pocket for access and starting, and a camera helps with parking. The traction battery in the car can be tapped via an adapter, for example, to charge the battery of an e-bike.
