More RAM in the iPhone: 2025 allegedly the first model with 12 GB
According to a well-known analyst, Apple will install more main memory in the iPhone next year. However, this will be expensive.

Apple is apparently planning to add more RAM to the iPhone – albeit not until next year. This is according to the usually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities in Taiwan. In an X-Posting from last week, he writes that Apple will equip the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is expected in September 2025, with special features. This also includes a larger main memory.
More money, more RAM
Currently, Apple only ever installs 8 GB of RAM in its Pro models. With the iPhone 16, which will be launched on September 9, the standard models could also reach this value for the first time, as Apple Intelligence cannot make do with the 6 GB currently used. According to Kuo, 12 GB are now allegedly planned for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, this expansion level will only be reserved for this model. iPhone 17, 17 Pro and the particularly thin new iPhone 17 Slim or Air will continue to receive 8 GB. The same is likely to apply to the iPhone SE 4, which is expected in spring 2025.
According to Kuo, the 4 GB should also lead to "improved on-device AI capabilities", which would then become an "important selling point" for the top model. Apple always sells the Pro Max models at the most expensive price of all new iPhones. The manufacturer currently charges at least 1449 euros for the smallest model. The maximum configuration (with 1 TByte) costs 1949 euros. (Prices in stores are cheaper.)

More extra sausages for the 17 Pro Max
Kuo also mentions other technical details that will allegedly only be available on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. These include an improved cooling system that combines vapor-chamber technology with a graphite layer. This should prevent the hardware from getting too warm, even with complex applications such as games or on-device AI.
The analyst also stated that Apple will continue its tactic of only giving the top model all the new features. "It is expected that the differentiation strategy of reserving the best specification (apart from a larger display than the Pro) for the Pro Max will continue," Kuo continued. The Pro Max currently accounts for around 40 percent of all units sold. It therefore makes a significant contribution to sales and profits.
