iOS 18.0.1 in preparation: Will it bring important bug fixes?
Apple is currently preparing the first update for iOS 18. Users are hoping that the company will fix some annoying bugs.

The iPhone manufacturer could follow up with a first update for iOS 18 as early as next week. A version 18.0.1 is being tested internally, according to several US websites that have already been visited by appropriately equipped devices in recent days. Apple does not appear to be planning a public or developer beta. Users are hoping that the update will primarily fix bugs.
Bugs discovered, waiting for fixes
The rollout of iOS 18 on September 16 went smoothly for many users. However, in some places, various errors were discovered in the operating system, some of them major, which had apparently not been discovered (or fixed) during the beta phase since the summer. For example, there is an understandable crash bug in the Messages app, including problems with newly opened threads. Much worse, however, are touchscreen problems, which were initially only noticed on the iPhone 16 Pro, but later also on other models. Apparently, Apple has tweaked its algorithm for detecting incorrect touches and overshot the mark.

There were also reports of shorter battery life. These are usually normal after an upgrade and should actually disappear after a few days if background processes have been run. However, with models such as the iPhone 15 Pro and 14 Pro, this condition lasted longer than usual for some users. Neither the iMessage nor the touchscreen nor the battery problems seem to be something that users can solve themselves.
IMAP error and huge iPad Pro M4 problem
Probably the most annoying iOS 18 bug concerns the Apple Mail e-mail program. Various companies and providers have experienced difficulties with IMAP servers, which have even led to outages – allegedly because Apple Mail reactivates interrupted connections too aggressively. Initially, it appeared that only the provider Vodafone was affected.
Even worse are errors in iPadOS 18, which could lead to the bricking of iPad Pro M4 devices. There has been no direct remedy for weeks, only a visit to Apple's service team is recommended, as the devices cannot be restored by the customer. Fortunately, there have been no reports of this happening with iPhones.
