First updates for iOS 18, macOS 15, iPadOS 18 and watchOS 11

As expected, Apple has released the first bug fix updates for its new operating systems released in September. The updates went onto the servers on Friday night and fix some bugs reported by users. A working version of iPadOS 18 has also finally been released for the iPad Pro M4 after Apple had previously withdrawn the system due to serious "bricking" bugs.

iOS 18.0.1: Eavesdropping bug fixed

According to Apple, iOS 18.0.1 brings bug fixes in the area of touchscreen reliability. This could previously become "unresponsive" on iPhone 16 and 16 Pro "under certain circumstances", writes Apple. A bug that caused the Messages app to crash in an endless loop when sending Apple Watch watch faces has also been fixed.

Finally, Apple has addressed a camera freeze bug that occurred on the iPhone 16 Pro when using 4K without HDR in macro mode. It is not yet clear whether Apple has fixed an IMAP error in Mail – which had caused problems with various email service providers. In terms of security, Apple says it has fixed two bugs:

One in "Media Sessions" and one in the new Passwords app. The problem in "Media Sessions" could lead to an app opening the microphone for a few seconds before the corresponding indicator alerted the user – It is unclear whether data was leaked as a result. The "Passwords problem" concerned the VoiceOver accessibility function: this previously read passwords out loud, which of course did not affect the environment.

iPadOS 18.0.1, macOS 15.0.1 and watchOS 11.0.1

iPadOS 18.0.1 also fixes both security vulnerabilities and restores compatibility with the iPad Pro M4. It also fixes the Messages app problem, and Apple has fixed a performance degradation that occurred on "some iPad models" due to incorrect memory allocation. macOS Sequoia 15.0.1 fixes the Messages app problem and is intended to improve compatibility with third-party security software. Previously, there were problems with disconnections and unreliable internet connections when so-called network extensions were used. It is not yet clear whether Apple has also resolved a problem with DNS when using the app firewall.

watchOS 11.0.1 fixes the Messages app bug and a crash bug in the Music app with certain media content. The watch could also restart unmotivated "for some users", the battery could run out faster than desired and the touchscreen on some Series 9, Series 10 and Ultra 2 models could become "temporarily unresponsive". visionOS 2.0.1 fixes the Messages app crash and ensures that web extension data is no longer lost when upgrading to visionOS 2.

In addition, Safari could freeze when playing YouTube videos, which should no longer happen. Finally, Apple has also released a Safari update with bug fixes: version 18.0.1 is part of macOS 15.0.1 and is available to download separately for macOS 13 and 14. macOS 15.0.1, watchOS 11.0.1, visionOS 2.0.1 and Safari 18.0.1 should not contain any security-related bug fixes, according to Apple.
