Electric cars from Peugeot get more range
The E-3008 and E-5008 models are now available with a 97 kWh battery and preconditioning. The latter is subject to certain conditions for the time being.
The Peugeot E-5008 with 97 kWh also has battery preconditioning for the first time. However, this only works under certain conditions.
For a long time, Stellantis, the group to which brands such as Fiat, Citroën, Opel and Peugeot belong, only considered electric cars to be suitable for long journeys to a limited extent. A maximum of 54 kWh gross combined with 100 kW peak charging power are no longer peak values. However, current new models have significantly improved in terms of energy content and charging power. The Peugeot models E-3008 and E-5008 can now be ordered with a battery that combines 96.9 kWh net with 160 kW charging power and – for the first time – preconditioning of the battery cells.
60 percent in 27 minutes
This greatly increases the range compared to what has long been the norm within the Group. In the WLTP, Peugeot promises up to 698 km for the E-3008 and up to 664 km for the larger E-5008. If you calculate with a consumption of 20 kWh/100 km, you can expect a range of 450 km plus a solid safety reserve. Charging should also be considerably faster than before. However, with 160 kW peak charging power, Stellantis is still not one of the champions in this area. The manufacturer quotes a time of 27 minutes for charging from 20 to 80 percent. The average net charging power in this window is therefore 129.2 kW. The charging losses still have to be added. 150 km WLTP range should – be recharged in 10 minutes under optimum conditions –.

Preconditioning with conditions – for the time being
The Group is approaching the topic of preconditioning the battery rather cautiously. The aim is to bring the cells into a temperature range that allows the maximum charging capacity without damaging the storage system. This applies in midsummer and especially in winter. The 96.9 kWh battery version now presented is the first at Stellantis to be preconditioned. The smaller 73 kWh battery is expected to receive it from May 2025. Until then, preconditioning of the large battery is subject to a number of conditions: it only starts automatically when the vehicle is being charged. In addition, 100 percent must be specified as the charging target and the interior pre-conditioning must be activated. Compared to the competition, where preconditioning is often already part of the charging plan, Stellantis is only a step forward in itself. When asked, Peugeot announced that preconditioning while driving will be possible with the next model year change in May 2025.
The large battery will only be offered in conjunction with the 170 kW E-motor. The E-3008 is offered from 52,750 euros, the larger E-5008 from 55,250 euros. VW ID.4 GTX or a Tesla Model Y with a large battery and all-wheel drive are also available in this price range. The Opel Grandland, which has grown significantly compared to its predecessor, will also be priced similarly as an electric car with a large battery.
