Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric: Small electric car coming in 2026
Renault is recycling shapes of its recent history for future e-cars. For the small car planned for 2026 and under 20,000 euros, these are those of the Twingo.
Renault announces its next electric car with a prototype at the Paris Motor Show. It formally follows the Renault Twingo, which was launched in 1993. The traditional French manufacturer transferred its monospaced form from its extremely successful Renault Espace van to a small car for the first time, which was also very well received. What worked back then should be well received by customers again in 2026 with modern drive technology. There are also practical improvements, such as two rear doors. Although the non-opening glass roof is a step backwards compared to the very airy fabric sunroof available at the time, it is still a kind of reminiscence. Incidentally, Renault speaks seriously of a "preview of the fourth model generation".

In the Twingo E-Tech Electric, an LFP battery could enable a range of around 200Â km in the WLTP. Renault has already spoken of a consumption of 10Â kWh/100Â km in the WLTP. However, battery placement in the automotive industry is being decided at ever shorter notice and is already dependent on current market prices, but also on the constantly increasing energy density. This means that instead of an LFP cell chemistry, one with NMC could ultimately be offered.
A car for every day
Renault is unlikely to be aiming for significantly greater ranges, as the company is still positioning the Twingo as an urban vehicle despite its significantly larger exterior dimensions. Renault advertises the Twingo E-Tech Electric as a "voiture Ă vivre", i.e. a car for every day, similar to its predecessor from 1993. "The Twingo E-Tech Electric prototype revives this idea in a modern way: as an uncompromising electric car for city traffic," the press release continues.
The Twingo E-Tech Electric will be a car on a par with the Citron -C3 (driving report), a four-meter-long electric car with a range of 320Â km for 23,300Â euros. It could later have to compete with the basic version announced for 2025 with a range of 200Â km for 19,900Â euros. In-house, the electric Twingo follows the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric retro electric car, which is already available to order, and the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, whose market launch is still somewhat imprecisely stated as "for 2025". The car is to be offered from 2026 at an entry-level price of 20,000Â euros. In terms of appearance, it should already be close to the pre-release version that Renault will be exhibiting at the Paris Motor Show from October 15 to 20, 2024.
