Not even the state-subsidized overproduction has given us a large selection of cheap electric cars from China so far. Instead, the European-based car manufacturer Stellantis is adding Chinese cars to its already huge range to take advantage of the gap. The customer still does not save much money. At least the choice is getting bigger.
The multi-brand group has now announced the start of sales for its compact electric SUV from Chinese cooperation. The Leapmotor B10 in the format of a Skoda Elroq or Kia EV3, which is very popular not only in this country, is “more than just a car,” says the press release. It calls it “an intelligent, sustainable lifestyle solution for modern, tech-savvy and environmentally conscious drivers”. The car is the third Leapmotor model for Europe, positioned between the T03 small car (driving report) and the C10 mid-size SUV (driving report).

)At 4.5 meters long, 1.88 meters wide, and 1.65 meters high, the car can now be considered “compact” and offers 2.39 meters of interior space between the rear seat back and front footwell with a wheelbase of 2.73 meters, which is typical for electric cars. 435 to 1410 liters of cargo space are no surprise in comparison; a Skoda Elroq has 470 to 1580 liters.
Cell-to-chassis battery
Like the larger Leapmotor C10, the B10 is powered by a permanently excited electric motor with a single-stage transmission, 160Â kW and 240Â Nm of torque on the multi-link rear axle. It accelerates from 0 to 100Â km/h in eight seconds and reaches a governed top speed of 170Â km/h.

)The battery is part of the body (“cell-to-chassis”) and is to be fitted with tailor-made low-profile battery cells in the interests of a low-profile design. Leapmotor uses lithium iron phosphate as the cell chemistry, so appropriate battery preconditioning is actually mandatory for charging on cold days. With a 56.2 kWh battery, the manufacturer promises a WLTP range of up to 361 km; with the larger 67.1 kWh battery, the maximum range is 434 km in the cycle.
Charging performance rather mediocre
Both batteries can be charged with 11Â kW of alternating current and up to 168Â kW of direct current. This indicates that the models for Europe are already working with the 800-volt architecture, as the charging power of the first version with 400Â volts was limited to 84 kW on direct current. However, fast charging is not really fast with this and should enable charging from 30 (!) to 80Â percent in around 20Â minutes in the best case.

The Leapmotor B10 will be available to order in Germany from September 1, 2025, from 29,900 euros incl. VAT. Stellantis promises a lot of equipment for the money. Standard features include 17 ADAS functions. The “Live” trim level also includes the 1.8 m² panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 360° parking camera, and much more as standard. The upmarket “Design” trim level also offers leather seats, ambient lighting, and heated, ventilated, and electrically adjustable front seats.
